Batman Court of Owls 7-12-2013 by myconius Batman Court of Owls 7-12-2013 by myconius
after Greg Capullo's Batman Court of Owls.

it's no secret that i absolutely LOVE Greg Capullo's art!!!
and i've honestly lost count of how many times i've drawn this image.
having sketched another version this on flimsy copy paper a few days ago
left me itching to redraw it on quality comic board so i could make a more developed image.

i'm actually a lot happier with this one than any of the other's that i've done before.
learned quite a bit this time.

Seeing Capullo's art and then this  ..its freaking sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet . You incorporated a bit of your own style with it , the gouache adds movement to the smoke and adds depth to the entire image - almost like its 3D

I could say more , but this is too cool for words !

thank you!

i'm really happy with how this piece came out. the gouache really is great for creating tone and soft edges when handled right.

it's funny though, no matter how much i try to emulate another artist my style will also end up taking over.

i'm glad you like this piece. thanks again! :)

Dude Greg Capullo is my favorite batman artist (after Neal Adams), and this is my favorite of his works. You did a great job of doing this picture justice. Keep up the good work!!

thank you very much! :)

as far as recreating Batman images i really enjoy studying Neal Adams, Capullo, Jim Lee and Brian Bolland.

i know i still have so much more i can learn, but from the studies i've done so far i've picked up quite a bit :)

thank you very much.
i tried my best to emulate Capullo's work as close as i could but at a certain point had to add my own painterly sensibilities to the piece.

and that's exactly what I really love about this, it's not a direct copy but has your own spin on it!

thank you very much.

i do notice most of my works (even copies) tend to have a very macabre look.

thank dude! :)

it's actually marker with some mixtures of black and white gouache in different degrees to get the values.

eventually i'd like to buy an array of colors but that stuff costs MAD loot!
one day!
